Signing Play Classes
Here are a few comments from local parents and grandparents:
....(our daughter, now 14 months) started understanding the sign for milk within a month after we took the course. Her first sign she did was dog (just the panting part) she did that allllll the time as my aunt has a dog. She started that around 9-10months old. We were practicing the mealtime signs with her and she started signing them at 12months. And then we taught her please and they all just started coming. Sometimes we didn't know what she was saying because she was doing all the signs to get what she wanted if we weren't fast enough. She can read the mealtime, bathtime and farmbooks by herself and LOVES her DVDs.....The people in the stores have been very impressed. She also says the words she knows while she signs.. or at least the syllables like ball, book, bubbles, duck, wa ter... she knows about 20 signs fluently know... 4 months after she started!

You should see the baby she is signing up a storm and also beginning to say the words. We are all astounded ;-) She loves the books and will immediately sit in front of the TV when it isnt on indicating that she is ready to watch one of her videos!  (grandmother)

On a visit to see grandparents in Sarasota, we decided to take Conor to the Jungle Gardens, an area zoo.  While walking through the parrot section, Conor started to grab his nose in what would seem to be the universal sign for "something smells".  After signing "bird" several times to him, we still couldn't understand why he was holding his nose!  It wasn't until we saw the ducks and flamingos, and Conor signed "duck" and his version of "bird" (holding his nose) that is dawned on us he was signing "bird" the whole time!!!

Yesterday morning, we asked Kennedy what she

wanted to do. We gave her a choice of Chucky

Cheese, the park, or even Wild Adventures.

(She knows all of those because we go so often.)

Her only response was, "Go see Beebo!" .....

I loved the class can't wait for the next part.  I recommend Baby Signs to everyone.

I have a story to share.  Katie is 16.3 months old, says almost 5 words and uses about 30 signs. Katie has known the Baby Sign for HOT, so I've been working on teaching her COLD for the last couple of months. She didn't get it until today.

My husband and I walk into TCBY and order a couple of waffle cone.  She's had some ice cream before, been OK with it, but has never been to an ice cream shop to partake.  I order a soft serve frozen white chocolate mousse yogurt and he orders just frozen chocolate yogurt.  Katie's not a picky eater, so we just alternate giving her bites from our own.  After all they are both chocolate!  First small bite, mmm she likes it.  second bite, brrr baby brain freeze, she pulls her shoulders up, puts knuckles to her chin and she shivers.  She now has a huge "I wish I had my camera" smile.  Then she opens her mouth for more.

Fast forward to bite six, she now wildly signs DONE to my yogurt, in favor of her daddy's and she has migrated from the far side of my lap and onto his lap in front of the waffle cone.  If she is not eating, she sits with an open mouth.  She signs MORE, MORE, MORE. Needless to say she enjoyed the visit, but I didn't know how much until late tonight.

So She had a full day at the Junior Museum, did the bath, night time snack and stories.  We have tucked her bear in and are now signing the things in the room as we are rocking to sleep. The Turtle light, something outside of the room, the train down the hall, the star light, something outside the room, a shiver with a huge smile.  Hey wait!  Is she??  His office faces Katie's nursery.  So Katie and I get up, AS SOON AS she sees him, she gets the biggest shiver and grin combination.  Yes, she is recounting our TCBY visit today.  WOW.  You had told us she may want to talk about past things.  I just hadn't counted on that so early.  So after 6 brain freezes she now knows COLD and has a very happy memory she can to "share."

> I thought you'd like to know that (my daughter) signed 'dog' on Tuesday,
> 'banana' on Wednesday, and today she tried 'giraffe' and 'fish'.
> AMAZING, I can't believe how fast they learn!
> Thanks for teaching me to sign with my baby!
